This year our Spring/Summer wardrobe was a non-starter but thankfully A/W 2020 holds a robust palette to breathe new life into your fashion choices. We don’t know about you, but we’re excited to welcome crunchy leaves, cosy layers and Pumpkin Spice Lattes back into our lives. Yes, Starbucks, your ears ARE burning!
Today we’re chatting through 6 of our favourite A/W 2020 on-trend colours to add change up your wardrobe. Some expected, some not! These come to us straight from runway, but we will know you will find your own beautiful versions straight from the rails at Marshes.
Mandarin Red
An amplified and provocative orange-infused red tone, Mandarin Red is a dynamic force we have seen popping up throughout the season. If you’re not sure where to start with this colour we suggest experimenting with one item like a sweater or blazer first.
Samba
A voluptuous sultry red, Samba introduces a powerful energy. A deeper commanding tone which is sure to place you centre stage in any room. Whether that is through power dressing or with a softer feel, this colour can take you easily from day to night with tailored jumpsuits, boxy blazers and slouchy suits. Get ready to unleash your inner girl boss.
Exuberance
A good natured and expansive orange shade, Exuberance conveys a message of spontaneity and happiness. Don’t be afraid to pair with some of the darker shades in your wardrobe for an easy way to lift and accentuate your style.
Rust and tangerine tones in particular are a must have this season. Tangerine adds a vibrant pop of colour and a new twist to Autumn/Winter looks, while rust feels more neutral and easier to slot into everyday outfits. We’re envisioning a rollneck jumper, dark denim and a sleek ankle boot for everyday wear. Even though things are cooling down outside, we’re keeping things warm n’ toasty with our colour palette this season!
Celery
Botanical in feeling, Celery is a vital yellow green that reflects the natural freshness of nature. Recently we’ve seen this colour expanding across print on the runway in a major way. A fun, fresh exciting tone that made a surprise appearance. Celery, whilst more of a summer colour is an autumnal contrast of elegance and winter crispness that we can bring to our autumn looks. Try sprinkling this tone in small ways like accessories, statement T’s or scarves before you jump all in.
And it’s not just the staple mustard hue we see every autumn – think bigger, think bolder. Marigold, lemon, canary, amber – we’re seeing them all throughout runway shows with no end in sight. If yellow’s a touch out of your comfort zone, integrate slowly. A hat, a scarf, even a statement shoe or funky sock with dark, neutral separates. One of the best things about fashion is that you don’t have to go in all guns blazing – you can make it work best for you, one piece at a time.
Tawny Birch
A romantic rugged and rosy tan shade evocative of rustic nature. Don’t be afraid to dive into some colour blocking when pairing this colour into your wardrobe. Designers such as Bottega Veneta, Saint Laurent and Alberta Ferreti have all proved this on their AW runways. From dreamy ruffle silhouettes to simplistic cosy casual wear this shade is a sure staple throughout the season. We simply can’t get enough!
For those who were of the 90s ‘Clueless’ generation, now is the perfect time to start living your Cher Horowitz fantasy with a mixture of plaids, tartans, layered tops and cute cardigans. This subtle nod to nostalgia was seen throughout Dior and Chanel autumn 2020 collections.
When it comes to seasonal fashion, versatility is key! Camel coats, the year-round friendly trench, sandals for warm days and nights out and the perfect clutch bag are capsule essentials that easily slot into each and every look. Who knew getting dressed in the morning/evening could be so easy? And better yet, brands are getting smarter and developing versatile hues that work with all skin tones. Our pale girl fear of looking washed out in neutrals is officially no more, hallelujah!
Brown & Black
A solid staple in every wardrobe, no matter what the season. What we love about black is its unique way of taking an outfit to level 11 on the chic scale while still looking effortless and well put-together. We’re thinking comfy coats, leather trousers and the perfect LBD for socially distanced gatherings throughout AW20. There’s a million ways to style an all-black outfit, from lingerie outerwear, laid back layers to chunky thick knits, so now’s the time to get creative folks!
Until next time,
